More is – more!

»The Balkans produce more history than they can consume, Winston Churchill observed. Located between the Adriatic Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean and Black seas and representing a bridge between East and West, the region has always been a changing one. Like shifting sands, it is never fully stable, and its definition presents quite a challenge! Some define the region in historical terms and others geographically, though there are even different interpretations among historians and among geographers!

The one thing about The Balkans that the world can always agree about is its cultural diversity, showcased most vividly in its music. Boasting centuries of heritage, its immense richness makes Aladdin’s cave pale in comparison. An astonishing collection of precious gems sparkling in a rainbow of colours. One can quickly become overwhelmed by the astonishingly elaborate and intricate rhythmical patterns full of unexpected changes and sudden incisions, challenging both the listeners and the interprets. To do it justice, the musicians must be equipped with »the whole package«: absolute technical mastery, mind-boggling virtuosity and a big and open heart. Simon TrpčeskiAleksandar KrapovskiSorin SpasinoviciAleksandar Somov,Hidan Mamudov and Vlatko Nušev have it all. And more. Electrifying energy and palpable joy are topped with sparkling passion for their respected cultures and musical heritages. If you missed their fiery festival Maribor debut in 2021, our Les Balkans, nobles et sentimentaux programme offers a chance to make up for it and experience The Balkans at its best!
