He's back! And we couldn't have been happier.

"Simon is an exceptional soloist in his own right, very individual. His individuality inspires me. A duet with piano and violin is like a dance between a woman and a man. The violin has the female role, while the piano leads. Without a great duo partnership, one can't realise the best of the score. With his deep understanding of music and true emotions, Simon brings so much to the realisation of the score. That's why he is so great as a soloist and partner."

This is how Maxim Vengerov described Simon Trpčeski, our artist in residence, in a recent interview. The Macedonian pianist returns to Festival Maribor after an extensive tour with the Russian virtuoso, boasting warm reception and critical acclaim wherever they turned up and standing ovations in the eponymously high-browed audience of (sold out) Barbican.

We can fully relate: the pianist, renowned for his powerful virtuosity and deeply expressive approach, topped with magnetic charisma, electrified our festival last year. We look forward to experiencing that thrill again. So happy to have you back, Simon!
